PRI Provides Emergency Response To NAS Whiting Field for Hurricane Ivan

San Diego, California — Project Resources, Inc. (PRI) was contacted by the US Navy Southern Division (SoDIV) to provide emergency response at Naval Air Station (NAS) Whiting Field in Milton, Florida for damage caused by Hurricane Ivan. Hurricane Ivan, with 130-mph winds, devastated the base. Damage included loss of electrical power, all communications, and substantial wind and water damage to structures and roofing. The base roads were nearly impassible due to hundreds of fallen trees on roads leading into the base. For the security of the Southeastern US, NAS Whiting field needed to be operational as soon as possible.

PRI’s emergency response team was on the ground at the facility within an hour of receiving the emergency response call. Project Manager Carlton Lehman mobilized to NAS Whiting Field prior to the hurricane to prepare for the emergency, along with several other staff from nearby bases. Within 24 hours of receiving the call from SoDIV, PRI had mobilized more than 100 staff to NAS Whiting Field to initiate emergency response operations.

PRI worked around the clock to clear debris and open access to the site, restore communications and electrical distribution, and clear trees from the 4,640-acre site. Within 48 hours, PRI restored power to the base and commenced the repair of high priority structures, including conducting emergency repairs at two aircraft hangers, initiating roof repairs, and providing water damage cleanup.
